Just some Car Audio questions.?

Just had a couple of simple yet not so simple questions about car audio (specifically subs).

What are the advantages of powered or non powered subs? Is one better to go with then the other?

Whats the difference between ported and sealed boxes? Is one better then the other?

What a bout the tube enclosers?

What is a bandpass enclouser? is it better then ported or sealed?

What a are some good brands of amps and subs? I'm not looking to spend anymore then 450$ for the complete setup

thanks!

Im not a car audio expert but Ill try to fill you in with what I know.

-Powered subs provide a woofer and an amp in one Small Enclosure, good for fitting into small spaces without the clutter or fancy work.

-Non powered subs contains low powered subs good for background, low frequencies sound. Neither Powered or Non Powered subs boast huge sound and ground trembling bass because of their compact design only allow for so much equipment and functionality.

-Ported boxes are enclosures that have an opening allowing the air and bass that the subs produce to escape. Good for loud, low, and trembly bass.

-Sealed is just the opposite. Sealed enclosures are completely sealed with no openings of any kind. Good for loud, mid to low, and punchy bass. When deciding between the two its all about personal preference. Go to a local audio shop or something and listen to both.

-Tube enclosures are usually powered subs with a little more air volume for the sub's air and sound to flow. Also good for tight spaces.

-Im not too sure on bandpass enclosures, you'll have to look that one up for yourself. Im not gonna make myself sound stupid talking about something I've only heard of.

-Depending on the setup your looking for, $450 may or may not be enough. If your looking for a full blown custom system (mine cost me $2,200) then you better be ready to cash out a little more. If your only looking for maybe a small sub or two and mid grade amp, again you might have to put out a little more. MTX is a good brand to start with. They are usually cheap and are pretty good quality. If your looking to save some money and get your hands dirty then you could build your own box and hook everything up yourself which will save you the labor fees that shops will charge you. Shop around and contact some local shops and do some research on your own. You will really get an idea of what all goes into upgrading your sound system.

www.Crutchfield.com is a famous online store with a lot of selection and support but they lack some good brands such as Memphis or Audiopipe.

www.yellowpages.com will help you with finding some store fronts around you.

I hoped this helps and good luck
