Having Twins, should we get a Minivan or SUV ?
My wife and I are torn. We are looking for help from anyone with twins. I don't want a minivan, but it just seems very practical. Does anyone have twins and own an SUV? What are your thoughts?
The main benefit I can see with a minivan is that it's much easier to load and unload infant carriers with the dual sliding doors as opposed to regular doors on the SUVs. Also with all the gear, minivans have way more trunk space without loosing the 3rd row. Please share your experiences!
We had the same dilemma when our twins were born. went with the minivan and like it better than the SUVs some of my twin mom friends have. Here's why:
-We have a third row of seating that can be used if we decide to bring someone to help us if we're going to an amusement park or something.
-There's way more room to change diapers on the floor of a minivan.
-We take out the third row and have a huge amount of space when we go on vacation. Even with the third row in, I can fit two pack n plays, a double stroller, and all the other gear that has to travel with us to grandma's!
-The way our van is set up I can walk to the back to the kids without getting out. This has been useful on the occassions we've had to pull over to the side of a busy highway and the kids were rear facing still. It's also more open so that I can more easily reach toys and stuff that fall without getting out of my seat.
-It's easy for me to get into the van with the kids and lock the door behind me before I start strapping them into their car seats. I find this helpful if it's later at night at the mall or something and I'm by myself. As a female with two small children I feel like I would be an easy target.
Honestly, the biggest con I have with my van is gas mileage but it's not that better for my friends with SUVs either.
