Audio Compact

is it possible to copy the contents of audio tapes in to a compact disc?

It is possible, and to contradict an earlier answer it certainly does not have to be expensive.
As far as hardware goes, you will need a cassette player (I assume you have one of those?), and a PC (again, a pretty safe assumption...) and a cable which might cost you all of $5...
As far as software goes, there is a very powerful software called AUDACITY which will cost you.....nothing!
So that's $5 then to copy as many cassettes as you want...
You don't actually convert to CD in one step, you convert the analogue signal from your cassette player into a digital signal using your PC sound card. The file is then stored on your PC for conversion to CD or MP3 etc...
Using Audacity is a bit geeky, so I tend to recommend something like Magix audio cleaner as it is a bit mor user-friendly. This will cost a small amount - personally I would trawl eBay for older versions, even the early versions will do the job very nicely for a pitifully small price...
All the rest of the steps are included in the guide below:
(there are three pages altogether)
