How do you finish veneer kitchen cabinets face?

These cabinets are original to my house (47 years) and by hand. They are made MDF with a veneer face and an oil base poly was used to seal that has transformed their hideous shade of yellow. I would like to change for some something darker, but I think I am limited on the amount of sanding can be done. Ideas?

I'm assuming that the problem is that the color and the veneer is, itself, in good condition. The old varnish comes off fairly easily with an agent of the removal of polyurethane. But you must be sure that the mover does not soak the veneer and disrupt the glue veneer. Therefore, I suggest you use Old French Polish trick.Wrap much of the cotton wool impregnated with solvent, poly, in a piece of lint-free cloth. Then, using much elbow grease and small circles, rub vigorously poly varnish until it removed all. I would then, using the same technique, apply dark "Polish antiques. It stains the veneer in the dark and you want to give a really great shine do! Antiques Polish comes in a variety of shades and is very resistant to wear. I used it on my garden furniture and it lasted more than spar varnish before!
