Universal Subwoofer

April 2nd, 2009 admin No comments

How do you know if a Subwoofer will fit in your car? Or is it all pretty much universal or what?

I got all new speakers and now need a subwoofer so I'm looking at some but don't know if they fit in my car or not. I have a Chrysler 1996 New Yorker and got all new speakers and a head unit for it. Any help is great thanks.
Also what OHM should I be looking for? I'm going to be listening to rap hip hop, rock, punk rock, and some pop so spaced out, what about size? Any recommendations or anything of the sort?

For pre-made enclosures, as long as it fits in your trunk its the right size. If you want to go that route, pick out a box you like the sound off and then pair it up with a compatible amp.(i.e. if you buy a box that is 600RMS/1300Peak at 2ohms, you will want to buy an amp that has a similar output at 2 ohms.)

The other route is to buy subs separately and then buy/build a box that is compatible, because every sub has a recommended manufacturer box type/size for best performance. So if you wanted to get some 15's, you will want to make sure that the required box size will actually fit. That info can be found on the manufacturer's website.

Side note: There is no right impedance, the reason the ohm rating/ resistance varies is for different wiring hookups depending on how your trying to set things up.

Use this if your having trouble understanding the wiring setup.

Recommendation:
Since it seems as though you want some serious bump in your trunk, but aren't looking to turn heads, I would check out some Pre-made 12 inch boxes (The ones without amps with them) and match an amp up with them. If your looking so save some cash and just need the minimum bass, there are very inexpensive sub/amp combos but they aren't not as loud or as High Quality.

Example Cheap:

Example Decent:

(There are many, many sub/amp combos but I picked these to give you an Idea.)

Edit:________________
When I say pre-made boxes I am refering to buying manufacturer made loaded enclosures.
